Clay Powell joined the firm in 1994. He is a partner practicing from both the Valdosta and Atlanta offices in the areas of affordable housing, commercial transactions, secured lending, commercial real estate, banking law, corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions. Clay has experience in the structure and closing of transactions financed both conventionally and through government-program sources, including federal and state tax credits, tax-exempt bonds, loan programs of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, U.S.-HUD, U.S.-SBA, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and various other federal and state government agencies.
Prior to joining the firm, Clay served as an International Loan Officer with the Atlanta office of an international bank holding company, specializing in commercial loans to foreign entities doing business in the Southeastern United States.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Clay moved to Valdosta, Georgia in 1975. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance in 1988 from Valdosta State College. He received his Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Georgia in 1994, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi international legal fraternity and the Mock Trial Board. Clay is also active in the Valdosta community, where he serves on the Boards of the Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Valdosta and Leadership Lowndes.
